Battle for Courage #ogarstrong
Over the Labor Day weekend, I had the privilege to participate in a fundraising event for a great cause. Listen to Kevin tell the story himself of how the Crossfit community has rallied around one of their own to help his recovery in any way possible.
This weekend took tons of work on the part of many, many people. But, big kudos go out to Rochelle Thayer of Crossfit TNT for dreaming this up and taking on this project to help her friend, Kevin. She was able to get Reebok on board as a sponsor and worked with them to gain the participation of 8 of their Reebok-sponsored athletes. Lindy Barber, Katie Hogan, Libby DiBiase, Stacie Tovar, Julie Foucher, Matt Hathcock, Blair Morrison, and Philip Kniep were drafted onto the 8 Rx teams that raised the most money before the start of the competition.
Some started early on getting their 1 rep max bench press in which they had all weekend to do. Kevin joined in the fun.

Saturday morning began with a Meet and Greet with the Reebok-sponsored athletes – Lindy Barber, Katie Hogan, Libby DiBiase, Stacie Tovar, Julie Foucher, Matt Hathcock (not pictured), Blair Morrison, and Philip Kniep.

Event 2 for all Rx and scaled teams was a 5K on the 370 Lakeside park trail. This event was also open to the public.

Pull-ups and 3 rep max overhead squat under the pavilion were on tap for Event 3.
Event 4 included sprinting, hang power cleans, box overs, and double unders, now do it all over again… 5 times.
Sunday morning began with a brutal chipper that took all day for all of the teams to complete. The chipper began with multiple movements in the field, including sled pulls in the wet, bumpy grass. Next the athletes sprinted up to the pavilion for several more movements and ended in a jump into the lake for stand up paddleboarding. There were some nervous faces when the athletes were getting onto a paddleboard for the first time. But, nearly everyone came back to shore with giant smiles on their faces.

Thank you to all the athletes for coming out and competing, not for the glory of winning, not to take home a giant purse, but to help out a friend. That is what it was all about. Thank you to the Reebok professional athletes for taking the time out of their busy schedules to spend a weekend in the Missouri heat to pump up the Crossfit community. Thank you to all of the volunteers, staff, vendors, and sponsors for basically erecting a gym, mall, and tent city out of an unfinished city park in a single day. Thank you to all of the judges for your commitment to the cause, for skipping meals to work every heat, and for judging with fairness. But, most of all thank you to Kevin Ogar for inspiring an entire community to pull together and fight to be our best regardless of our circumstances because, “Everything is impossible until someone comes along and does it” – Kevin Ogar.

Leave it to ever-original Rochelle to program a Crossfit event with a 5K and SUP! There were a few hiccups, but all in all the weekend ended with rave reviews and demands to do it again next year. I’m putting in on my calendar now!
